What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. It is an xml application used by websites to distribute links to articles to those interested. Websites offering RSS write a brief xml code which includes the headlines, short descriptions and links of selected articles. At a particular moment, a news reader aggregates the new articles (the news feed) and presents them to the user. The benefit is that you as a user choose beforehand what subjects on what websites interest you to ensure that these are the ones sent to you.

What do I need so I can use RSS?

In order to use RSS you will need a special "news reader" or aggregator which displays the content of the websites you have selected. There are a large number of news readers available, many free, and they are simple to download and install. There are also a number of web-based news readers on Internet.

Once you have downloaded a news reader there is nothing more for you to do other than register your interests free of charge.

RSS is a simple way of staying up to date with the most recent information on the subjects you have chosen. You do not have to go to your selected websites in order to find out if new information has appeared online.
